Having tested 30 different makes of wind turbines, Kight chose the Leading Edge LE-300 horizontal wind turbine to power its off-grid LED street lights and communication solutions.

Kight’s product range includes LED street lights, multi-point sign lighting and communication solutions designed to operate with hardware, such as LoRaWAN gateways, CCTV, ANPR, WIFI and Smart City Communications.

The LE-300 sits on a spindle at the top of the column benefitting from free-flowing air to maximise output. Over the last 12 years, the wind turbine has become renowned for its reliability and durability – precision engineered and manufactured in the UK with only two moving parts, little maintenance is required during the turbine’s long operating life.

The 95W of solar is cleverly sited vertically down the column shaft with more added to increase the power output if required. In this configuration, the unit captures the maximum available solar irradiation during winter days, when the sun is low in the sky.

Installations incorporating these hybrid solar/wind power generation systems can be found across the UK, Croatia and Australia with the marine grade LE-300 particularly suited to coastal locations such as sites in Southend on Sea in the UK.

Customers include local authorities such as Hillingdon Council and Surrey County Council, rail companies, maintenance contractors, construction firms, system integrators, facilities management, lighting consultants, architects and commercial organisations.
