Leading Edge turbines do not work with Lithium batteries which have a built in battery management system (BMS) or an external BMS in the system. The reason being that if (or when) the BMS switches the Lithium battery off, our turbines will then go open circuit as there is no battery voltage to create resistance. When this happens, the turbine can spin faster without this battery load and the open circuit voltage created by the turbine could be up to 100V DC, which is then passed into the circuit via the busbar potentially overloading the circuit and damage any sensitive equipment in the system. At the same time the turbine can experience higher revolutions than it was originally designed to sustain and could be damaged. For this reason, we do not recommend the use of Lithium type batteries with our turbines and Leading Edge are unable to warranty the turbine with this type of battery technology.
